In December 2018, Esprit Motors celebrates five years in business as a used car dealer focused on reconditioned Subarus in Portland, OR. We (Kim and Ian) would like to take a minute to reflect on this experience and the many friends and colleagues that helped us get here.
Five years ago, we had just finished the process of becoming licensed dealers in the state of Oregon. After completing vehicle dealer education classes, obtaining insurance and a bond, and having our application approved by the Oregon DMV, we were licensed and open for business.
This was the second business that we had started together as spouses. Our first business was a great learning experience but was not a great fit for us. We were excited to shift from an online business to a vehicle brokerage (our original business idea) and jumped in with both feet.
While our business is now focused almost exclusively on buying, reconditioning, and selling Subaru Outbacks (along with occasionally Toyota Prius, Volvos, and other Subaru models), what we learned that first year would carry us to the present day. Our central goal has always been to ensure that we show integrity in our interactions with customers, that we share our knowledge about cars, and that we are easy to work with. We hope that we have helped to demystify the car buying process and that customers look to us to tell them what we know and what we don’t know about a car. We are thankful for every customer and really mean it when we offer our gratitude for working with us. We celebrate five years of building relationships with our customers and learning more about the needs of local families looking for a Subaru for their household.
We have also found that our customers’ stories are part of our story as well. We have helped many families find a safe, reliable, and affordable car to take them on adventures in the Portland metro area. We have sold cars to parents who were buying the first car for one of their children to drive, a time of expanding independence for the child and trepidation for the parents. We have also sold cars to many folks across the Pacific Northwest that need both a fun, reliable car to get back and forth to work as well as a car that will be able to keep up with their busy weekend plans, too.
We are both so thankful for the wonderful people that we have met through Esprit and the feeling that comes from knowing we have helped a customer find a great car at a good price.
