Pre-purchase inspection of a vehicle located in the Portland metro area.

Inspections can be tailored specifically to the car but can include the following:

• Exterior and interior of the vehicle:
  • Body condition: Inspect paint and bodywork for damage. Inspect the windshield for damage.
  • OBD2 codes and emissions or warning lights: Scan the engine computer for OBD2 codes and whether codes were cleared recently. Check for functioning warning lights.
  • Electrical accessories test: Check windows, wipers, radio, etc. for proper operation.
  • Lights: Check that headlights, parking lights, turn signals, and interior lights work properly.
  • Interior condition: Inspect for wear and damage.
  • Engine compartment: Check belts and hoses, oil level and condition, timing belt, and look for leaks.
  • Brakes: Check for break codes and check the condition of pads and rotors.
  • Battery and charging test: Check battery voltage and health and for proper charging.
  • Tires: Check age and condition.
• Drive test:
  • Engine condition. Start and running test.
  • Automatic transmission: Check for warning lights and if the vehicle shifts properly.
  • Manual transmission: Check for clutch slip, gear engagement, and noise.
  • Brakes: Check for noise and pulling.
  • Suspension: Check the condition of shocks, major clunks, squeaks, and noises.

Inspections are $250 if the car is located within 10 miles of downtown Portland (zip code 97227). Additional travel charges will be added if the vehicle is located further than 10 miles from downtown Portland.
